The Resurrection of the American Christian

Here we are. Huddled in the Upper Room. Praying with a like mind. We, the Privileged. We, who once were Christians and who now have been called to Follow Jesus. Not asking why or how but sitting in the Spirit-filled reality of a perpetual, "how could I not?"

In the midst of fear, and hatred, and reactivity, we Your people cried out in desperation,

"Take this net. It has become all that I know."

And together we knew it had begun. Not for the first time but once again. We are coming alive. Life generates in us a deep hunger to know You and One Another. We realize we are starving and that in this moment of surrender You have brought us back to Life.

We imagine now, You will be our dream catcher.

On that hillside, in this place, we watched together the dreams and hopes and futures descend into a place unknown. And now, now we look up to the possibilities of a world already granted to us yet not realized. We see now that it is just waiting, not for You, but for us.

Can I hold your hand? Can we cry and shake and ... confess? Together. Gathering up the courage to walk out of this room and sing at the top of our lungs "Lord, I Want to Be a Christian." A new verse.

Lord, I want to be a Follower of Jesus. In America. But there seems as if there is no road ready for our travel; only dead ends and misplaced signs to places with no real promise.

Shall it be out of the cuts of our hearts that we navigate our way to Your world on earth? This journey which began with the call to save not only ourselves from this corrupt generation but to also step out for those who fall victim to its indiscretions.

It cries out to the inner most spots of our souls..."this Way."

Like those who have gone before you and as those who will come after...

In the vision of justice and in the light of mercy you are called to live. Gathering together and selling your possessions and goods and distributing the proceeds to all, as any have need...

Breaking bread and eating food with generous hearts, praising God, and having goodwill to All people.

And day by day God will add to the numbers...lives which are being saved.
